Rochelle Squires was elected in 2016 and re-elected in 2019 as the MLA for Riel. She served as Minister of Sport, Culture and Heritage until her new appointment as Minister of Sustainable Development and Minister responsible for Francophone Affairs and Status of Women effective August 17, 2017. On October 23, 2019 she was appointed Minister of Municipal Relations while continuing to serve as Minister responsible for Francophone Affairs. Since January 5, 2021 she serves as Minister of Families and Minister responsible for Francophone Affairs.
Having put herself through university while raising two sons as a single mom, Rochelle holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Winnipeg and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of British Columbia. She also holds a Journalism Diploma from Red River College.
Rochelle has had a diverse career as a journalist and writer. She has previously worked as a reporter and has been published in The Globe & Mail, the Winnipeg Free Press, and the Winnipeg Sun. She has also had a documentary air on CBC Newsworld.
Rochelle and her husband Daniel, a small business owner, are proud to be raising five children together. She is an active member of the community and helps raise funds each year for the MS Society and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Rochelle is proud to be part of the Manitoba PC caucus and, as MLA for Riel, will work hard to create a stronger economy that will create greater opportunity and give our young people a better future right here at home in Manitoba.
