Rochelle Squires is Manitoba’s Minister of Families and Minister responsible for Francophone Affairs.
She was elected MLA for the constituency of Riel in April 2016 and was re-elected in September 2019. In May 2016, Ms. Squires was appointed Minister of Sport Culture and Heritage, Minister responsible for Francophone Affairs and Minister responsible for Status of Women. She was named Minister of Sustainable Development and retained responsibility for both Francophone Affairs and Status of Women in August 2017. In October 2019, Ms. Squires became Minister of Municipal Relations and continued her role as Minister responsible for Francophone Affairs. She is also the chair of the Regulatory Accountability Committee, and is a member of Treasury Board, the Economic Growth Committee of Cabinet, and the Gender-Based Violence Committee of Cabinet, the first of its kind in Canada.
A life-long learner and writer, Ms. Squires holds a BA in communications from the University of Winnipeg, a journalism diploma from Red River College, and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia. Before being elected to office, she worked as a print journalist and a political staffer at both federal and provincial levels.
She and her husband Daniel have a combined family of five children and two grandsons.
