NDP Platform has $2.1 Billion Spending Hole

Wab Kinew and the NDP will raise taxes by $2,500 on you and your family: Pallister

Manitoba PC Leader Brian Pallister today released a detailed costing of the NDP’s risky election promises that will raise taxes on Manitobans by over $2,500 to pay for a massive new $2.1 billion deficit within four years.

“Wab Kinew and the NDP started this campaign promising a balanced budget but the only way he can meet that promise is by hiking the PST by 2 percentage points to 9 per cent” said Pallister. “Mr. Kinew’s inexperience is showing and it is Manitobans who will pay the price for his risky promises.”

Kinew’s uncosted campaign promises create a $2.1 billion hole in the NDP election platform. In order to avoid punishing Manitobans with a $2.1 billion deficit in the fourth year of their mandate, the NDP would need to increase the PST by two percentage points to pay for their vote-buying promises.

“Our $2020 Tax Rollback Guarantee will save an average Manitoba taxpayer $2,020 over the next four years,” said Pallister. “The NDP will need to raise your taxes by $2,536 in order to pay for their expensive election promises. Our PC team is the only party you can trust to put more money back on the kitchen table and make life more affordable for you and your family.”

Pallister noted a re-elected PC government will actually balance the budget two years earlier than promised in fiscal year 2022-23, giving Manitobans a fiscal dividend to reinvest more in better health care, education and infrastructure, and to lower taxes.

“On Sept. 10, Manitobans have a choice,” said Pallister. “A choice to move forward with us to a more affordable, more secure and more prosperous future, or backwards to higher taxes and more debt under the NDP.”

Wab Kinew and the NDP are a risk Manitobans cannot afford.
