NDP Carbon Tax Will Make Long Weekends More Expensive

Wab Kinew needs to tell the truth about how much he wants Manitobans to pay

As Manitobans prepare to hit the highway on one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, Manitoba’s Progressive Conservatives are calling on NDP Leader Wab Kinew to be truthful about his proposed carbon tax and how much it will cost families in our province.

“The August long weekend is a time when many Manitobans head out on the road to visit family and friends, go camping, or just relax with their loved ones,” said Rochelle Squires, PC candidate for Riel. “But Wab Kinew and the NDP want to make that travel more expensive, in some cases preventing families from getting away at all for a well-deserved break.”

Wab Kinew and the NDP support Justin Trudeau’s made-in-Ottawa rising carbon tax, but they don’t think it’s high enough. The NDP openly support the need for the highest carbon tax in the country – as high as $300 per tonne – to meet their carbon targets.

At the NDP-supported level of $300 per tonne, every litre of gasoline would cost an extra 60 cents, bringing the average gas price in Manitoba to a whopping $1.75 per litre. That’s an additional $45 to fill up the tank of an average family minivan!

“Wab Kinew and the NDP want to bring in a massive carbon tax that will do nothing but make life less affordable for Manitoba families,” said Squires. “Manitobans deserve to know just how much the NDP carbon tax will cost them. It’s time for Wab Kinew to tell the truth.”

After years of never-ending NDP tax hikes, only a strong, united PC team will lower taxes, increase economic opportunity, and make life more affordable.

Manitobans know that Wab Kinew and the NDP are a risk they can’t afford.
