Cathy Cox was elected as the MLA for River East in 2016 and re-elected as the new MLA for Kildonan-River East in 2019. She previously served as Minister of Sustainable Development and continues to serve as Minister of Sport, Culture and Heritage since August 2017. On October 23, 2019 she was given additional responsibilities as Minister responsible for the Status of Women.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Cathy is a dedicated community activist who is proud to serve her community of Kildonan-River East.
Cathy has been engaged in the River East constituency for many years as a community activist. Cathy volunteered at the Gateway Recreation Centre for a number of years and is a past board member of the Sun Valley School Parent Association. Cathy was the recipient of The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal awarded by the Governor-General of Canada for her outstanding and exemplary contributions to her community.
Cathy and her husband, Herb, have 3 sons and 2 granddaughters. As a long-time resident of the area, she is committed to improving the quality of life for everyone who lives, works, and plays in River East.
