Rochelle Squires was elected as the MLA for Riel in 2016. She previously served as Minister of Sport, Culture and Heritage and, in 2017, was appointed as Minister of Sustainable Development. Rochelle also serves as Minister responsible for Francophone Affairs and Minister responsible for Status of Women.
Having put herself through university while raising two sons as a single mom, Rochelle holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Winnipeg and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of British Columbia. She also holds a Journalism Diploma from Red River College.
Rochelle has had a diverse career as a journalist and writer. She has previously worked as a reporter and has been published in The Globe & Mail, the Winnipeg Free Press, and the Winnipeg Sun. She has also had a documentary air on CBC Newsworld.
Rochelle and her husband Daniel, a small business owner, are proud to be raising five children together. She is an active member of the community and helps raise funds each year for the MS Society and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Rochelle is proud to be part of a strong, united PC Team. As MLA for Riel, will continue working hard to build a stronger Manitoba that will create greater opportunity and give our young people a better future right here at home.
