Kelly Bindle was elected as the new MLA for Thompson on April 19, 2016. In addition to his duties as MLA, Kelly previously served as the Legislative Assistant to the Minister of Growth, Enterprise and Trade and currently serves as a member of the board of Manitoba Hydro.
Kelly is a civil engineer and small business owner with a long family history in Thompson. His mother, Grace, still lives in their family home across from Juniper School and his father, Otto, was a pioneer of Thompson who moved to the area in the early 1960's to manage the Thompson Inn.
Kelly was a long time employee at the Inco Limited working in various capacities including as a Ventilation Engineer and most recently as a Project Manager before starting his own engineering consulting firm in 2006. Kelly has worked on many consulting projects around Thompson, including design and construction of the Poppy Canopy at the Royal Canadian Legion, McLean Park stage project and contributing to the Thompson Regional Community Centre Phase II construction. Kelly also owns and operates the Ripple Rock Meat Shop.
Following his Dad’s proud service in the Royal Canadian Navy, Kelly is proud to have been an active volunteer and 26-year member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Thompson, including Master of Ceremonies for the 2014 Remembrance Day Service. Kelly has been a long-time volunteer with the Thompson Humane Society’s monthly Texas Hold-em charity fundraisers, has provided structural advice for constructing the Thompson Wolf Exhibit, and was the 2015 Citizen Representative on the City of Thompson Public Works and Infrastructure Committee.
Kelly is familiar with Northern issues and is a strong voice for Northerners in the Legislature as the MLA for Thompson. Kelly believes Thompson deserves a better plan to realize the potential of the North. Kelly has committed to fostering close relationships with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit community leaders to create education opportunities for youth so they can achieve their goals in the North. Kelly is proud to be part of a strong, united PC Team that is creating jobs, improving healthcare and providing real tax relief to Northern Manitoba families.
