Probe Needed Into Possible NDP Interference with Stadium - Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba

PCs will audit Investors Group Field construction if elected to government: Pallister

The Progressive Conservatives pledge to find out what has gone wrong with the construction of Investors Group Field.

“Premier Greg Selinger has dismissed our calls for an independent audit into the stadium construction project. We have now asked the Auditor General directly to conduct a comprehensive investigation,” said Opposition Leader Brian Pallister. “If the PC Party forms government next year, we will audit the project to determine how deep the problems go.”

A stadium sod-turning event in May, 2010, along with the premier’s photo-op at the site and campaign-style advertising that highlighted the project in August the following year, lead us to question whether urgent orders were given to use the stadium project as a campaign prop in advance of the 2011 general election. Manitobans are the primary funders of this project and deserve to know whether the NDP conducted offensive interference with their money and safety.

“Selinger’s words and timing are both alarming and questionable, especially because it has been alleged he knew of numerous concerns regarding the stadium’s structural integrity,” said Heather Stefanson, Opposition Critic for the City of Winnipeg.

Manitobans deserve a stadium they can be proud of -- one that is safe, affordable and without political interference. If the NDP won’t dig to the bottom of this issue, we will.
