It’s not too late to stop the $4.6-billion Bipole boondoggle, despite what the NDP is telling Manitobans. Less than $80 million of the approximately $600 million paid out so far for the transmission line is not recoverable, according to sources within Manitoba Hydro.
“Manitoba Hydro is a gem, but it isn’t being allowed to shine when the NDP keeps everyone in the dark,” said Official Opposition Leader Brian Pallister.
Bipole will also expropriate huge tracts of prime agricultural land owned by Manitoba farmers.
“The loss to agricultural producers will exceed the total acreage of Assiniboine, St. Vital and Kildonan parks, along with that of all other Winnipeg green spaces,” said PC agriculture critic Blaine Pedersen.
The misspending under the NDP is exacerbated by unanswered questions about $400 million that has been poured into the now-shelved Conawapa project.
“Our questions on how that money has been spent have not been answered,” said Ralph Eichler, PC critic for Manitoba Hydro. “Taxpayers deserve to know where all those dollars have gone.”
