Eating Disorders Need Our Attention - Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba

Early intervention can save lives: Driedger

The goal of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week (#NEDAwareness Week) is to acknowledge the seriousness of eating disorders and to improve public understanding of their causes, triggers and treatments.

The PC Caucus is committed to making sure those with eating disorders are not overlooked. Eating disorders are the mental illnesses with the highest mortality rate.  We are calling on all stakeholders, especially governments, to take a leadership role on this serious issue.

By increasing awareness and access to resources, we can encourage early detection and intervention, which can improve the likelihood of full recovery for many. When it comes to eating disorders, early intervention has been shown to have the most dramatic results.  Early intervention can prevent years of struggle and can save lives.

It is unacceptable for those in danger of serious and lasting physical harm or even death to be denied care, yet many in Manitoba are unable to get treatment for eating disorders when they need it.

All Manitobans deserve to have their mental health cared for and to have resources available that enable recovery and well-being. Manitoba’s Progressive Conservatives are determined to work together to make Manitoba a healthier place to live.
