Children who need their government most are not getting the supports they need.  In March, an average of 65 children in Manitoba’s child welfare system were staying in rented hotel rooms every night; some children for months.

“We have a government that is looking inwardly and has lost focus on what is important.  The NDP’s negligence is harming children in care,” said Opposition Leader Brian Pallister.

This government is failing children in care when they are needed most.  NDP government infighting has taken the focus away from the real job of government and that’s to help Manitobans who need them most.

In a bid to avoid bad media headlines children are being shuttled from one service provider to the next with no assessment about whether the new service is better or worse than the ones they were pulled from.

“The Child and Family Services Minister needs thoughtful assessment of her programs and policies with a focus on ensuring the 10,000 children in care get the best services possible,” said Family Services Critic Ian Wishart.

Manitoba’s most vulnerable children need the NDP to focus on real solutions, not on the distraction of politics.  This is what is expected from government, but more important it’s the right thing to do.
