While there is much to celebrate in Manitoba as we approach International Day of the Girl there is still much progress to be made, especially in protecting young girls in high risk situations.
We celebrate International Day of the Girl with mixed emotions, as the tragic circumstances surrounding the life and death of Tina Fontaine hang over our hearts.
“Every single girl has the right to feel safe in their home, whether it’s their family home, a foster home, a shelter or an emergency placement,” said Status of Women Critic, Myrna Driedger.
“Manitoba has over 10, 000 kids in CFS care, many of them girls and too many of them at risk to be exploited and taken advantage of. It is everyone’s responsibility to make sure these girls are in safe and healthy environments.”
As a Province we have much to celebrate when it comes to equal opportunities for young girls and women. While it’s important to celebrate those achievements, Manitoba’s Progressive Conservative will continue to push this government to ensure our young girls, especially those at risk, are cared for and given every opportunity to live a safe, meaningful and successful life.
