Biography:

Manitoba's rich agricultural land and related agri-business have always had a special calling for the Faurschou family. The eldest son of Ralph and Ella Faurschou, David joined the family business, Faurschou Farms Ltd. in 1980, and served as Vice President and General Manager. Faurschou Farms Ltd. is a 4200-acre farm business specializing in production/processing/marketing of pedigreed seeds.

David was born and raised in the Portage area. While attending the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Agriculture, David served with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in The Pas and Arborg as a summer student, opting though, after graduation, to return to Portage and commit himself fully to the family business.

David's commitment to and knowledge of agricultural issues led to his receiving the Canadian International Grains Institute's Certificate of Achievement and being honoured as Canada's Outstanding Young Farmer in 1995. In 2003, the Canadian Seedgrowers Association honoured David with the Outstanding Service Award.

Believing that an active role in community affairs is the best way in which to create a positive environment to raise a family, David became involved in many organizations, including his roles as:
Director of Portage la Prairie and District Chamber of Commerce
Chairman of the Portage la Prairie School Division Board of Trustees
Director of the Portage Women's Shelter
President of the Central Plains Farm Business Association
A member of the Portage la Prairie Economic Review Committee
Founding Director of the Crop Research Organization of Portage

In September 1997, David, with full support of his family, decided to run in the Portage la Prairie provincial by-election. He was elected on September 30, 1997 and took the Oath of Office on November 7, 1997. In June 1998, David was appointed Legislative Assistant to the Minister of Rural Development. David has since been re-elected as MLA for Portage la Prairie in both subsequent provincial elections - on the September 21, 1999, June 3, 2003 and again on May 22, 2007.

David recognizes that working together with his constituents is the key to ensuring Portage la Prairie continues to grow and prosper in the years ahead. For years Portage la Prairie constituents have had strong, quality representation...and that trend will continue with David as the local MLA.

David and his wife Lori have three children, Aaron, Jenna and Katelyn.
